Nixon
Meets The King!
Fact
IS stranger than fiction and this vintage
photograph of former President Nixon and
Elvis Presley, together in the White House,
is definitely a classic example!
Of all the requests made each year to
the National Archives for reproductions
of photographs and documents, one item
has been requested more than any other.
That item, more requested than the Bill
of Rights or even the Constitution of
the United States, is the photograph of
Elvis Presley and Richard M. Nixon shaking
hands on the occasion of Presley's visit
to the White House.
On December 21, 1970, Elvis Presley paid
a visit to President Richard M. Nixon
at the White House in Washington, D.C.
The meeting was initiated by Presley,
who wrote Nixon a six-page letter requesting
a visit with the President and suggesting
that he be made a "Federal Agent-at-Large"
in the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous
Drugs.
Presley was a deeply religious and unusually
conservative American. He was also given
to highly impetuous acts. One day in 1970
he decided that he wanted to become a
drug enforcement agent and proceeded to
Washington, D.C., to ask President Nixon
to sign him up.
Never one to let an opportunity slip through
his fingers, the chief executive consented
to the impromptu meeting. Nixon gave him
a handshake, a badge, and his thanks.
Elvis gave Nixon a gift he'd brought with
him: a silver-plated revolver.
A truly unique collector's item for both
Nixon and Elvis fans alike! This historical,
stranger-than-fiction black and white
vintage photograph is professionally framed
in a gallery-style matte black molding.
It's richly double-matted in dark slate
gray and brushed silver - both made
of acid-free materials.
This great-looking framed photograph comes
to you ready to hang and enjoy for years
to come. What a great gift idea this is -
for Christmas, birthdays, housewarming,
whatever!
This is an 8x10 vintage black and white
glossy photograph of that historical day
in the White House on December 21, 1970 -
the day that Nixon met the King!
